Winter Recital 2011

Happy Post Hallowe’en Pre Winter Holiday’s Everyone!!

The winter recital date has been decided AND we will be trying a NEW location this time too!

So get ready to mark your calendars and please RSVP so I am able to plan accordingly.

WHEN: Monday December 19, 2011

TIME: 6:30pm

LOCATION: 935 Bloor Street West, Long & McQuade Bloor Clinic Hall (The room is located upstairs, Paul will be at the street entrance to greet everyone) Google Map

PARKING: It has been requested that we use Bloor and side-street parking as the parking lot is small and very busy

Please feel free to invite family and friends! AND of course there will be refreshments following our concert.

Hi Everyone!

I thought I’d touch base to make sure everyone is caught up on all things piano : – )

Halloween is next week, and in the piano lesson world that means it’s time to start thinking about our Winter Recital.

Starting next week I will be introducing songs to be played at our Winter Recital. I will be confirming the recital date within the next week AND we might have a brand new location this time…..I will be in touch soon!

Lastly it’s time for our NEW Feature Student.

Many of you may have noticed that I haven’t posted the audio from June’s recital, I must apologise as I ran into technical difficulties and was only able to record part of the recital……Hopefully we’ll have better luck with the winter recital!

The flowers are blooming and that means its’ time to mark the 2011 Stouffer Piano Studio spring recital in your calendar!!

When: 6:30pm June 28th 2011

Where: St. Matthew’s United Church, 729 St. Clair Ave W, Toronto M6C 1B2

The recital will be held in the church sanctuary and refreshments will follow!

Continuing to Learn and Grow

As a teacher I feel that we can always learn and grow, whether in our own professional career or for interest sake.

On April 30th I was lucky enough to attend a ‘Teacher Professional Development Seminar’ at the Royal Conservatory of Music. This seminar hosted some of Canada’s top pedagogues and was truly inspiring.

Marc Duran (http://www.rcmusic.ca/ContentPage.aspx?name=bio_marcdurand) an extremely dynamic clinician held a master class with student’s of various levels. He demonstrated how to bring the best out of each student from an elementary level up to an advanced more polished player. The master class was followed with a Q&A which covered everything from understanding style, key depression, speed, weight, use of our body, the importance of rhythm.

Kent McWilliams (http://www.vkmfestivals.org/node/47) focused on ‘Excellence in Teaching’ the main topics covered were goals as a teacher, teaching is a privilege, the pianist – (fingers, wrist, forearm, upper arm, body), music – (rhythm, structure, harmony, history), the musician – (transferring knowledge into sound), the artist, performance and the concert hall.

We ended the day with discussion about meaningful assessment and the different ways to achieve this. Week to week, self, teacher, recital, friends, festivals, exams.

Overall the days was full of practical ways to help me grow as a teacher (or as Kent put it a ‘co-learner’) and I look forward to bringing some of the knowledge gained to my studio.

The Results Are In!!!

As the students of Stouffer Piano Studio start to get a little older, some are choosing to jump into exams through the Royal Conservatory of Music.

It’s exciting to see students who started with me from the very beginning of their musical journey really starting to grow as little musicians!!!

Here is a BIG Congratulations to our latest RCM candidate ROSIE!!!! YAY!! Great job!

Rosie achieved 1st Class Honors with a mark of 83 on her grade 1 exam!!

Keep up the great work!
